Sailing to Buck Island National
Monument
Several companies offer daytrips to Buck
Island on large catamarans or power boats. They will leave from various
place on St Croix such as Christiansted and the Green Cay Marina. You
can select either a half day trip or for the adventurous and energetic a
full day excursion. The half day consists of sailing over to Buck Island
from St Croix with about an hour stop at beautiful Turtle Beach. This
beach is one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean and is a turtle
nesting site. While at the beach you can choose to talk a walk on the
beach, take a swim or get a snorkel lesson. After leaving the beach your
boat will sail around the other side of the island where there is a
beautiful lagoon with an underwater snorkeling trail. You'll have about
an hour to snorkel and you can go on a guided tour or just snorkel where
you would like. After snorkeling you can just sit back and relax and
enjoy the sail back to St. Croix. Should you decide to do the full day,
it will include a stop at a deserted beach for a BBQ of fresh fish,
hotdogs and hamburgers and all the rum punch you can drink!
